WestJet Vacations just opened its fall sale, and the headline number is hard to ignore: up to $725 in instant savings on sun vacation packages. “Instant” is the key word — this isn’t a mail-in rebate or a future travel credit. The saving comes off the price when you book.
The sale covers popular winter-sun favourites including Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Montego Bay, plus more destinations across Mexico and the Caribbean. If you’ve been watching January or February getaway prices creep up, this is the window where they come back down.
The dates that matter
Two windows, don’t mix them up:
- Book by: October 13, 2026. The sale booking window runs October 5–13. That’s just over a week.
- Travel between: October 19, 2026 and May 31, 2027. That covers late fall, the entire winter season, Christmas and New Year’s, March break and spring — basically the whole sun-seeking calendar.
This is the classic shoulder-season play. Airlines and resorts would rather fill planes and rooms in October and November at a discount than fly them empty, and the savings get passed to you. The trade-off is minimal: the weather in Cancun in November is roughly as good as in February, with fewer crowds.
What “up to $725” really means
Let’s be straight about how these sales work: the biggest savings land on the priciest packages — longer stays, better resorts, peak weeks. A 7-day mid-range package might see a couple of hundred dollars off rather than the full $725. That’s still meaningful against a $2,000 booking.
The way to use this sale well: price the exact same package with and without the sale dates if you can, or compare against a quick check of the same resort on a couple of other sites. If WestJet Vacations comes out clearly ahead, book it. If it’s within $50 of everywhere else, the “sale” is mostly marketing — and that’s fine to walk away from.
What to check before you book
- What’s included. WestJet Vacations packages typically bundle round-trip flights, hotel, and often transfers. Confirm transfers are in there — a $60 taxi each way eats into your saving.
- Baggage. Check whether checked bags are included in your fare type, especially if you’re comparing against another site’s price.
- The fine print on “instant savings.” Make sure the discounted total is what you see at checkout, not a price that appears after an extra step.
- Travel insurance. A winter sun trip is exactly the kind of booking where insurance earns its keep. Price it separately — don’t assume the package add-on is the cheapest option.
- Passport expiry. Mexico and the Caribbean need your passport valid for the duration of your stay; some travellers get tripped up by the six-month guideline some airlines apply. Check yours now, not in January.
How I’d play it
If a winter getaway is already in your plans, this week is genuinely a good time to lock it in: the redtag.ca promo code sale (code RED, ends October 8) is running at the same time, so you can cross-shop the identical trip on both sites and take whichever is cheaper. Two competing sales in the same week is the best-case scenario for the buyer — use it.
If you weren’t planning a trip, don’t manufacture one. But if you were going to book a sun package sometime before Christmas anyway, booking it during this sale instead of after is pure upside.
Reminder: sale fares are capacity-controlled and the best dates go first. If your preferred week shows a higher price than expected, the sale inventory for it may already be gone — try shifting by a few days.
